The Past, The Present and The Future.

January 3, 2020 in Health, Mental Health, Opinion
Trying to figure out the directions to life

Let me start off this post by stating that I am in an incredibly content space of mind. Content does not mean complacent. Just as growth due to a difficult challenge isn’t easy nor the end of said challenge.

In reflecting on the past year, 2019 was one of the extreme obstacles. 2018 was a year of turmoil and aside from getting my degree, it was a messed up one. So I took all of those hard-earned life lessons into 2019. For one, I am a very determined person and if I set my mind to it, I will achieve it. Which isn’t always good or what life has planned for me. So 2020 I plan to be more accepting of the subtle flow and “nudges from the universe”.

2019 started off with me feeling somewhat lost, unhappy but I had already begun a mental health journey which was in no way easy and often made me question whether it was working. I had planned to embrace being single, free from controlling personas, I felt like I needed a purpose in my career and at times felt completely helpless. I mean is this how I wanted to spend the last year of my 20’s?

Oh no, firstly the most amazing man came into my life and him being as stubborn as I am, I finally caved. From our first date, we have been a solid unit. As with all relationships, there are ups and downs but our quirks are in-line with one another and although others say we are very alike, what we are is very understanding of one another’s faults, weaknesses and of course positives too. Together we have made a house, a home, along with our very own daughter… okay she is a pomeranian but she is not a “dog dog”. I never knew I could feel so much love.

Towards the middle of the year, I faced a massive mental battle. If I could share any statement which I wish everyone could understand is that: You can be happy and depressed at the same time. One is a state of mind and the other is an illness. To admit your lowest low to those you love and have them be supportive and accepting is one of the greatest gifts one could receive. Also the braveness I experienced in “admitting defeat” which wasn’t defeat at all. One person can not win a war. We all need tools, support and guidance. This will always be a part of my life journey and for 2020 I plan to take care of myself more and most importantly appreciate my tenacity and strength to still be here today.

Career-wise there are so many doors open for me and I am often torn between the creative and the monetary aspects. Especially for my mental health. I plan to work on this area of my life more this year. 2018 was the year of lessons, 2019 the year of growth and 2020 the year of success.

What do you hope for the year ahead?

Love this pre-2020 post! I had my “turmoil” year in 2016 also just before i finished my degree. Its true you can feel both sad and happy at the same time. Human beings aren’t 2 dimensional. Well 2020 was all about nudges from the universe for me so far. I think this year has also helped me just to go with things especially if it feels like it will be OK amidst anxiety and other concerns/pressures. Looking forward to this summer at least.

Isn’t it just crazy how unpredictable life is! Everything I expected to possibly happen this year didn’t. Well aside from a move two weeks before lockdown!!! And becoming a fur baby mother to a very special rescue 1 week before lockdown! Overall, the lockdown and year thus far have in a way formed a better me for the future and for finding value and strength from within. Just like what you said, through all of this chaos and uncertainty I feel like everyone but more so for those with anxiety, have been forced to learn more practical coping skills. We can grow stronger through adversity. And no I don’t mean that in the cliche Insta caption way 🙂

This summer heat is definitely making the days fee This summer heat is definitely making the days feel far longer. Also, since doing both #Veganuary2021 and the @RushTush Vegan Glow Cleanse, prepping food in advance has become a part of my routine. No more rushing to make quickly make something or quickly ordering a takeaway. This means healthier and more filling meals. So usually at this time it’s simply snack time. Fresh pineapple is a favourite. I sometimes even ice mine!

I have so many personal posts I want to write but am also afraid of sharing. Especially at a time when it seems like everything brings out the “ugly” in people. Anyone else feeling the same?

Oh just casually forcing my fur kids to love me!!! Oh just casually forcing my fur kids to love me!!!

Just kidding, they usually the ones begging for love. @candi_onewoofatatime sleeps on my feet as in on. To trap me or on my actual head. @oneroccoatatime also tries to do the “on mummy’s head” move even though he weighs 32kg. Or he sleeps alongside us like a real big boy that snores. They the most amazing little souls and have helped me through so many tough mental health times.

Yes, we allow our dogs on the bed. They are actually cleaner than most humans 💕

Should have of course posted these last night but Should have of course posted these last night but hey the evening was SO crazy!! Haha actually it was a total bust. Arguing over midnight music, weird tasting cocktails and hangry as my pizzas were taking too long. But we were together and alive so I guess that’s a plus. Tried to create a “holiday” vibe with whatever I could find around the house.
New Year’s Eve (well afternoon) braai today was New Year’s Eve (well afternoon) braai today was completely plant-based 🌱

So far #Veganuary2021 has been super simple to incorporate into my life. In fact, even more, tasty than usual thanks to the wide range of #FrysFamily meat-alternatives.

And yes it’s not January yet, so not technically 2021 or #Veganuary2021 but it’s never too early to try plant-based. In fact, I decided to start 10 days ago.

As far as my winning braai goes, even the boyfriend enjoyed the @frysfamily burgers and didn’t realise that the potato salad, garlic butter bread (braai-broodjies), creamy salad dressing on the salad, and of course the burgers, buns and all were completely #Vegan! To #LiveKindly doesn’t mean to “miss out”.

I thought I’d share some of the @rushtush produc I thought I’d share some of the @rushtush products I’ve been using for the past month and a half. These have really made a difference not only in conjunction with the @rushtushlife but also in my general lifestyle. These are not diet products! They do aid with fitness, but also energy and blood sugar levels.

Metabolic Spray: Contains Lipotropic factors which may support a healthy metabolism.

Gluc Support: Has been fantastic in helping with my intense carb cravings! It provides support with the metabolism of glucose. So no massive sugar-induced highs and then crashes which lead to carb cravings. My weakness. For some it’s just plain sugary cravings.

Glutamine: I have taken L-Glutamine, an amino acid, supplements over the years. Mostly for digestive issues. It is a wonder health product though and helps with muscle recovery and cellular regeneration. I’ve always loved it as it works superbly for bloating, it also prevents infection and helps with inflammation!

The #RushTushFitApp has a “first 2 weeks free” offer. It is then R250 p.m for a year. So why not try it out and start the new year on a good and healthy note!

*All of the above products are #Vegan and are available on RushTush website.
