One of my ultimate favourite brands L’OCCITANE South Africa have partnered with The South African National Council for the Blind. With the first part of their fundraising they were able to raise almost R80 000 and in February 2016 they visited Nokuphila Primary School in Tembisa, Gauteng and provided comprehensive eye care screening, treatment ,spectacles, skills transfer to teachers and referrals to children in need of eye care support.

Did you know that according to the World Health Organization an estimated 80% of blindness is preventable or curable. In South Africa there are thousands of adults and children living needlessly blind merely because they cannot afford treatment or do not have access to adequate services.

On a personal note I developed very poor sight vision a year ago and was unable to see far distances which increasingly became closer. I eventually went for an eye exam and discovered that I had Myopia and only 20% vision in my one eye and 60% in the other. Once I was fitted with a proper pair of glasses an entire world that used to be blur was suddenly visible to me. I can only imagine how frustrating and difficult it must be to have vision problems whilst in school and not have the money or the means to have help. Sight is something so many of us take for granted until it is taken away from us.

If you want to support the second round of fundraising for this incredible initiative then all you have to do is pop into a L’OCCITANE store and purchase a I Care About Sight pouch which contains a Shea Butter Hand Cream 30ml and Pure Shea Butter 10ml for R250. 100% of the profits will be given to the South African National Council for the Blind (SANCB) to fund a local school project in August 2016.
