Exploring The Winelands; Lanzerac

Exploring South Africa's Winelands, Travel By Feb 11, 2013
I am so very fortunate to not only live in such a beautiful country but also to stay in such an incredibly stunning part of the country. The Western Cape has plenty to offer and exploring my own city Cape Town and the surrounding areas is never boring. The Winelands are filled with rich history, exquisite settings and delicious food and wine to indulge in. I will be starting a new feature on here called Exploring The Winelands.
First up is Lanzerac, a gorgeous estate that has a hotel, a restaurant that is divided up so whether you are going for lunch on the terrace, dinner in the manor or high tea in the courtyard you feel accommodated, they also have a cocktail lounge as well as a wine tasting and sales section.
It was a boiling hot day so the terrace covered by trees and a glass of chilled white wine was ideal.
I opted to go for a salad as a starter, salmon trout with capers, beetroot, rocket and artichokes.
Their menu comprises of more classic meals with a slight twist. The flavours combined perfectly.
For mains it was linefish (kingklip) served with the most divine coriander mash.
The inside of the restraurant has stuck to original decor and you are welcome to have a coffee in the lounge area, it has a Downton Abbey feel to it so I had lots of fun pretending to be the lady of the manor… Not sure Dowager Countess of Grantham (Maggie Smiths character) would approve of my attire.
They also have a cocktail/bar area called Azure..
Lanzerac has a superb range of wines and I was blown away by their Sauvignon Blanc. I have considered adding a wine review section to One Stiletto At A Time (similar to The Nail File review section). So look out for that reviews amongst many others soon!
