It is honestly so much fun to be a tourist in your own city. Cape Town has so many exciting experiences to offer and this year the weather has truly been showing off. On our holiday, we decided that Boulders Beach is a must. I have been before when I was a child but this time I was able to appreciate it far more and as I said the weather played along picture-perfectly. Boulders Penguin Colony is a protected area that forms part of South African National Parks. Boulders Penguin Colony in Simons Town is home to a unique and endangered land-based colony of African Penguins. This colony is one of only a few in the world.

It was so special to be able to walk along the boardwalks and essentially right through their homes, many were nesting and you could see the little babies huddled under their mothers bellies. It was also fun to watch the adult penguins waddle out into the water. They are quite ungainly creatures but that just adds to their charm. I do recommend going very early in the day as we were fortunate to have full viewing opportunities with very few other people around. However, when we left at 11am buses and buses of tourists were hurtling towards the area. I can’t imagine they got to see nearly as much as we did so head their bright and early to avoid the masses.
